WhatsApp’s Privacy Boost: Hidden Chats and Password-less Passkeys

WhatsApp is stepping up user privacy with the introduction of hidden chats, allowing users to discreetly secure their conversations. This feature, currently under development, will empower users to eliminate the entry point for locked chats using a secret code. In a significant advancement for privacy, WhatsApp is giving users more control over their conversations.

In a bid to enhance user privacy, WhatsApp, part of Meta, is set to introduce innovative features. Here’s a breakdown of what’s coming:

1. Hidden Chats for Enhanced Privacy WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to hide locked chats, providing added confidentiality. Recent reports hinted at a secret code feature for secured conversations.

2. The Upcoming Feature According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively developing a feature that grants users the ability to hide their locked chats. Currently, the entry point for locked chats is always visible in the chat list when there is at least one protected conversation. The upcoming feature will enable users to eliminate this entry point and reveal the list of locked chats by entering a secret code into the search bar.

3. Boosting User Privacy WhatsApp considers this development a significant advancement in user privacy. Concealing the entry point for locked chats and incorporating a secret code function empowers users with more control over their protected conversations.

4. Password-less Passkeys for Android Additionally, WhatsApp is set to roll out a password-less passkey feature for Android users. This initiative aims to enhance both security and convenience by eliminating the need for traditional two-factor SMS authentication, which can be insecure and inconvenient.

5. What to Expect Android users can securely log in with passkeys, using their face, fingerprint, or PIN. While passkeys have undergone initial testing in WhatsApp’s beta channel, they are now poised for release to the general user base. However, there’s currently no information available about WhatsApp passkeys for iPhone users.

6. Gradual Introduction WhatsApp has disclosed that Android support for passkeys will be introduced gradually over the coming weeks and months. Passkeys offer an alternative to conventional passwords by utilizing the authentication methods available on your device.
